The brief
Renovation work starts with what is already there. Here the street elevation was the main design problem: the new work had to suit the proportions and materials of the existing house rather than be imposed on it.
One team
Because the same team designed and built the work, anything uncovered once the existing structure was opened up could be resolved in the design straight away, without waiting on a separate designer.
